On Saturday night there was a festival with many different
things happening in Lucca centre. It was scheduled to go on into the early
hours.
We headed to the first item on the list which was a live
band performance in one of the squares. It was supposed to start at half 6 but
it didn’t seem to take off so we headed on to the next event.
We got to Piazza San Michele and soon heard the sound of
drums. A procession of people all dressed in traditional medieval outfits came
down one of the side streets. Some were banging drums some waving flags and
others carrying old weapons. The drumming sounded awesome. They stopped in the
middle of the square and put on a great performance.
When they had finished we went and ate some more gelato and
then had a look around the stalls. It seemed every street we went down
something was happening, people playing instruments and dancing.
We had wanted to stay until late to see more performances
but we were so tired we headed home.
About an hour after we arrived it started to thunder and
lightning so were glad we came back. It had been really humid up to that point
so it was a relief when it started to rain.
The thunder and lightning was still going on when we got up
the next morning and the rain was coming down very heavily. It cleared the air and felt much cooler. It gave my car a much needed clean too.
It's understandable that Italy, a great place for tourism, likes to roll out its historic specialities. I love places like that, a feast for the ears and for gathering interesting historic tit bits!
